Text from MAAT in Lisbon: The Trainee results from what could be called an alternative artistic residency … In a collaboration between the Kiasma Museum and the company Deloitte, the Finnish artist Pilvi Takala joined the multinational’s marketing team as a trainee. Watched by colleagues who don’t know that they’re the subjects of an artistic project, Pilvi starts a performance that tests codes and demands in the context of an imposing productivity.
At the beginning of her internship, the artist’s actions correspond to expected methods of working. However, over time she adopts a posture of disinterest, deliberately and ostentatiously demonstrating that she isn’t working.
I think about this piece all the time!!!! So fucking funny!!!!
